The Olympic Games in Paris are in full swing. Germany has secured two gold medals so far, but more are to come. There are also a few decisions to be made on Friday. From a German perspective, one of the highlights on the seventh official day of competition is the performance of the German basketball team led by Dennis Schröder against hosts France (9 p.m.). An overview of the program on Friday.

Medaillenchance
The German show jumpers put in a remarkable performance in the qualification: The trio around Vice European Champion Philipp Weishaupt and Zineday were the only team to remain faultless and thus finished the preliminary round in first place. “We have achieved our first goal,” commented national coach Otto Becker. “Everyone performed well. But we haven’t won anything yet.” On Friday, all teams will start from scratch again. However, hopes of further medals in equestrian sport have been raised following Michael Jung’s eventing gold medal.

For early risers
On Thursday, Germany’s 3×3 basketball players had to get up at 5:50 a.m. to make it to their game against Canada on time. The early bird caught the worm: Captain Svenja Brunkhorst’s team beat the previously unbeaten Canadians 19:15, and are still in the race to reach the semifinals. In the evening, the team beat Azerbaijan 12:8. This Friday, the alarm clock will ring early again. Then, from 9 a.m., the opponent on the Place de la Concorde will be China. The duel with Spain will not follow until 7 p.m., and at 9:30 p.m. they will play against France.
Insider tip
2.03 meters, 139 kilograms: Teddy Riner’s appearance is impressive. This Friday – a week after he was allowed to light the Olympic flame together with Marie-José Pérec – the hero of the French is now being challenged on the judo mat (the session begins at 10 a.m.). The 35-year-old has won three gold medals and two bronze medals at the Olympic Games. If he wins the next gold medal in the over 100 kilogram class, he will face a cross-sport duel with the swimmer Leon Marchand, who has won three medals so far: who is the biggest star from the hosts’ point of view?
