Moroccan Ambassador to Germany Visits Wilopark to Strengthen Ties Between Wilo and Morocco

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to the Federal Republic of Germany visited Wilopark, the headquarters of Wilo, one of the largest international manufacturers of pumps and pumping systems, in Dortmund. On site, HE Zohour Alaoui spoke with the CEO of the Wilo Group, Oliver Hermes, in particular about the importance of the Moroccan market for Wilo and the water distribution projects in Sebou and Tangier.

“Due to its political stability, reliable infrastructure and visionary, politically driven large-scale projects, the Kingdom of Morocco is an important market and crossroads for Wilo,” says Oliver Hermes. Wilo’s Moroccan subsidiary, located in Casablanca, plans to expand with an even larger production facility by the end of 2024. “The investment strengthens our regional presence and illustrates our connection to Morocco, Africa and the South as a whole.” The expansion is part of the technology multinational’s regionalization strategy.

Morocco also shares the Wilo Group’s commitment to sustainability, which recently made its sustainability strategy a priority. Morocco aims to reduce its energy consumption by at least 15% by 2030 and to obtain 52% of its energy from renewable sources. To address the challenges of water scarcity, Morocco is investing heavily in national water infrastructure. According to the National Water Plan, more than US$37 billion will be invested by 2025.

These plans include two megaprojects. The “Sebou Water Transfer Project” connects the Sebou Dam to the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah Dam to secure water distribution in Rabat, Marrakech and the surrounding regions. Wilo will supply twelve 4.5 megawatt vertical turbine pumps to equip the necessary pumping stations. The “Tangier Water Transfer Project” aims to connect Tangier to the Oued El Makhazine Dam with similar success.

In the meeting with Ambassador Zohour Alaoui, Oliver Hermes stressed the importance of Moroccan projects. “Only by implementing such bold initiatives will we be able to tackle the major issues of our time,” explained Oliver Hermes. To continue the successful partnership, he presented the Ambassador with a written declaration of intent confirming that Wilo will continue to invest in the local site and support positive economic development in Morocco.
