Angri, disabled woman held prisoner at home for a year

It’s been over a year since Mary Cascone Of Angers she appealed to the institutions to take an interest in her case. but the situation has remained the same, even worsened, because at least before there was her 80-year-old partner to carry her groceries by hand up to the third floor. Then the man got injured and today Maria has serious difficulties getting groceries. Affected by clubfeet since birth, she has undergone many operations over time, forced to wear special orthopedic shoes that do not allow her to climb the stairs like anyone else. Three years ago he received a council flat with a lift which is not working today.. A paradox for her. Practically a prisoner in her house, not free to leave the house for a walk and when it happens she has to grab the railing and slowly go down while her partner pushes her from behind to go up. A house in which she has also invested a lot of her savings to adapt it to her daily needs.

In the public housing building where she lives, near the Don Carlo La Mura High School, the other residents do not feel like contributing to the expense. Some time ago there was also a condominium administrator who then resigned from the position. Maria Cascone has asked the Municipality of Angri several times to intervene in the matter that remains without a solution. Last March when the Minister for Disabilities arrived in town Alessandra Locatelli she managed to have an interview with her thanks to the provincial councilor Joseph DelSorbo of the League. “The minister took my hands, caressed me, she was really sensitive and good, she listened to me the whole time, I told her about my experiences with this problem” explains Maria.

Now her problem is the difficulty in receiving groceries, she can’t always find people to bring her food to her home or to run errands. “When they hear that they have to walk to the third floor in this heat, they get discouraged.” she adds dejectedly. “I need the elevator, I can’t stay like this, someone help me!” concludes the 62-year-old woman.
