At the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the visitor was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the Malagasy Foreign Minister, Rasata Rafaravavitafika, as well as other dignitaries, including the Governor of Luanda, Manuel Homem.
According to a note from the Angolan Foreign Ministry, Rajoelina will begin her programme tomorrow with a visit to the Dr. António Agostinho Neto Memorial, where she will pay tribute to the National Hero and the first president of Angola.
The Malagasy president will hold official talks with his Angolan counterpart and will also be the focus of an extraordinary plenary session of the National Assembly.
The State visit programme also includes a tour of the Luanda Refinery.
Angola and Madagascar announced on July 8, after an exchange of notes for the establishment of diplomatic relations, the conclusion of work for the signing of the General Cooperation Framework Agreement and a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations.
They also created conditions for the signing of a legal instrument for visa exemption for diplomatic and service passports.
These agreements could be sealed during Rajoelina’s visit.
The two presidents held talks last December after the lunch offered on the occasion of the Malagasy’s inauguration, a ceremony at which Lourenço was one of the guests of honour in his capacity as head of state and also as acting president of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The leaders had previously met at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), where strengthening relations was the central theme of the conversation.
Both governments expressed interest in cooperating in several areas, with particular emphasis on mineral resources, agriculture, fisheries, tourism and education.
