Wiesbaden (dts news agency) In June 2024, around 18.8 million passengers took off or landed at Germany’s main airports. As the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) announced on Wednesday, passenger numbers were 6.2 percent higher than in June 2023 (17.7 million). However, compared to June of the pre-Corona year 2019 (21.6 million), the airports counted 12.7 percent fewer passengers.
In the first half of 2024, 90.8 million passengers took off and landed at Germany’s main airports, 10.5 percent more than in the first half of 2023 (82.2 million). In the same period, prices for international flights fell by 3.1 percent. Compared to the first half of 2019 (106.3 million), the number of air travelers in the first half of 2024 was 14.6 percent lower.
In June 2024, Spain was the most popular travel destination (2.9 million passengers boarding and disembarking), followed by Turkey (2.0 million) and Italy (1.3 million). Compared to the previous year, Spain increased by 9.5 percent, Turkey by 2.9 percent and Italy by 11.9 percent. Compared to the level of June 2019, however, the number of travelers from and to Spain fell by 4.3 percent and the number of travelers from and to Italy by 13.8 percent, while air traffic with Turkey recorded a significant increase in passengers of 20.1 percent, according to the Federal Office.
