The area affected by the so-called Alexander Mountain Fire has doubled since Monday, and people in the endangered areas have been called upon to evacuate, the Larimer district announced. The state of California on the west coast of the USA is also battling numerous forest fires. The largest forest fire to date, the so-called Park Fire north of Sacramento, has now covered an area of more than 1,560 square kilometers, according to the Cal Fire authority. The Park Fire is classified as the fifth largest fire since records began in the US west coast state.
According to the federal agency National Interagency Fire Center, there are currently 89 major fires in the USA. More than 27,000 firefighters are deployed nationwide. In view of climate change, experts warn that fires will occur more frequently and have more destructive power.
