The popular community bus trip of the German-French Friends Circle (DFF) Wadersloh brought 40 guests from Wadersloh to France.
Wadersloh (gl) – For the 15th time, the German-French Friends Association (DFF) Wadersloh has organized its popular community bus trip to France. According to a press release, 40 guests spent an eventful week under the leadership of Suzanne Martens, Anja Marke and Elmar Möller.
After an overnight stay in Tours on the Loire, the first destination was the Atlantic coast, with the location in La Rochelle, the “White City by the Sea”. In addition to a detailed exploration of the old town and the harbor, a boat trip to Fort Boyard and Ile d’Aix was also on the agenda. In glorious weather, two interesting excursions were also made: one to Ile de Ré with a tour and tasting at an oyster farm, and the other to the city of Cognac, where the Hennessy company, the world-famous manufacturer of the drink of the same name, was visited.
On the journey from La Rochelle to the twin towns in Auvergne, the community bus stopped in the “martyr village” of Oradour-sur-Glane. This special place gained its sad notoriety 80 years ago during the Second World War because an SS division carried out a cruel massacre of the civilian population there on June 10, 1944, killing 642 people and then burning the town. Today, Oradour still presents itself to visitors as it was left behind in the wake of this cruel event.
After the emotionally moving tour of Oradour, the community bus continued on to Néris-les-Bains, where the Wadersloh residents were greeted in the evening by the two presidents of the ACW partnership association, Liliane Murat and Serge Beyrand, and moved into the “Mona Lisa” hotel in the spa gardens. Over the next two days, the partner communities and their immediate surroundings were visited. In keeping with tradition, the German guests were also received in the town halls, namely by Deputy Mayor Bernard Contamine in Marcillat and by Mayor Alain Chapy in Néris. Mayor Chapy proudly led the Wadersloh residents to the completely newly built thermal outdoor pool in Néris.
The excursions took the group to the town of Montluçon and to the Buddhist temple Dhagpo Kundreul Ling in Biollet, one of the largest Tibetan Buddhist centers in Europe. But there was also partying with many French friends, especially during and after dinner in Saint-Fargeol and in the restaurant of the Néris Golf Club.
