Daniil Vidinski is the brand new patriarch of Bulgaria – 2024-06-30 10:05:06

Daniil is the brand new Bulgarian patriarch. He was elected by the delegates of the Patriarchal Electoral Church Council.

Within the run-off, Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin acquired 69 votes, and Grigoriy of Vrachan – 66 votes, invalid – 3 ballots.

Earlier, on June 20, at its assembly, in full composition and by secret poll, the Holy Synod of the BOC-BP elected the three diocesan metropolitans as worthy candidates to occupy the patriarchal throne. These had been Metropolitan Grigoriy of Vratsa, Metropolitan Daniil of Vidin and Metropolitan Gavriil of Lovchan. The latter was eradicated within the first spherical of voting.

Metropolitan Daniil (Atanas Trendafilov Nikolov) was born on March 2, 1972 in Smolyan.

Metropolitan Daniil of Vidin accomplished his main and secondary training in his hometown.

In 1996, he enrolled and studied “English Philology” on the Sofia College “St. Kliment Ohridski”, and the next 12 months he transferred his training to the College of Theology on the identical college.

In 1997, he was accepted as a novice within the Hadjidim monastery “St. Nice Martyr George” beneath the religious steering of the late Metropolitan Natanail of Nevrokop. On August 7, 1999, he was ordained a monk by him, and the following day he was ordained as a hierodeacon.

In 2002, he graduated from the Theological College of the Sofia College “St. Kliment Ohridski”.

On July 21, 2004, he was despatched for obedience to the “Nativity of the Virgin” monastery in Rozhen. On November 27 of the identical 12 months, he was ordained a hieromonk by his diocesan bishop.

On June 1, 2006, he was elevated to the rank of archimandrite.

By determination of the Holy Synod on January 20, 2008, he was ordained as a bishop with the title Dragovitiyski within the Patriarchal Cathedral “St. Alexander Nevsky” and was appointed vicar of the Nevrokop Metropolitan. He remained so till June 15, 2010, when, on the request of the Metropolitan of the USA, Canada and Australia, Joseph was appointed his vicar, a place he held till February 4, 2018, when he was canonically elected Metropolitan of Vidin, BTA remembers.
