Ilan Hammi, the father of the late Col. Assaf Hammi who fell in defense of Kibbutz Nirim, shared his pain: “This is my first Memorial Day as a bereaved father, but not as a bereaved brother”
The late Col. Assaf Hammi, who commanded the southern division in the Gaza Division, fell together with his soldiers in the battle on October 7th in the defense of Kibbutz Nirim. In a conversation with Arel Segal and Yossi Yehoshua on 103fm, his father Ilan Hammi shared the inspiring character of his much-loved son. “We knew that Assaf was able to quickly identify significant events in the State of Israel, and the people of Israel were privileged to recognize such a person – he left us a legacy,” he said At the beginning of his words he noted: “Today is my first memory of bereavement, but I also remember my brother Eitan who fell 36 years ago.”
