/ world today news/ On October 25, China vetoed a draft resolution submitted to the Security Council by the United States regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The country’s Permanent Representative Zhang Jun motivated the decision by saying that the draft resolution “violates the spirit of previous UN resolutions”.
In his words, “China’s position is based on facts, law, justice and the strong concern of the whole world, especially the Arab countries.”
On the 18th due to the US veto, a draft resolution on the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the protection of civilians there was not adopted, despite the majority of Security Council members voting for it. On the 21st, Washington proposed a new version that overturned the consensus already reached and included many elements on which there are still serious disagreements and go far beyond humanitarianism.
Zhang Jun stated that “China does not pursue any vested interests in the Palestinian conflict, and will support solutions that are conducive to peace.”
“China is ready to continue to work with the members of the Security Council and the international community and play a responsible and constructive role in efforts to end the fire and war, to protect the civilian population, to avoid greater humanitarian disasters and to achieve comprehensive, fair and lasting resolution of the Palestinian issue,” the diplomat stressed.
