“Incredibly poignant” 2013 British gem | MovieZine

Reality-based drama with 4 Oscar nominations and a brilliant Judi Dench.

Don’t judge the movie by the poster. “Philomena” isn’t just for your mom. The film transcends your cynical thoughts. It is for everyone. Just as “Paddington” isn’t just for kids, “Philomena” isn’t just for your aunt.

In the film we see Judi Dench searching for her son who she was forced to adopt away by evil nuns fifty years ago. In the search for her son and the truth, she is helped by a journalist played by Steve Coogan.

MovieZine gave the highest rating to “an incredibly poignant, beautiful, warm and very British film. It’s not greyscale kitchen sink realism about social misery and vulnerability, but simply just a delightful film about reconciliation and forgiveness (…) One moment the tears flow uncontrollably down my cheeks and the next I feel laughter bubbling in my chest.”

“Philomena” has a 7.6 on IMDB, 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 77 on Metacritic.

Judi Dench was Oscar-nominated for the role of Philomena Lee. And she is amazing. It’s like Judi Dench. What else? Comedian Steve Coogan showed that he has the ability to participate in all genres, but was nominated “only” for best screenplay adaptation.

Go to the nearest bakery, buy some margarines and almond cubes, pour yourself a glass of milk and pull down the blinds so you can cry freely. It’s Judi Dench time!
