This week came the sudden announcement that the Italian Camila Giorgi, 32, is ending her career as a tennis player. But she wasn’t the one who announced it.
The announcement came as Giorgi, who reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2021 and has been ranked as high as 26 in the world, was on the International Tennis Federation’s list of retired players.
But she herself has not said a word either in the association’s channels or on her social media.
Until now.
“My dear fans. I would like to formally announce that I have finished my career as a tennis player. I am grateful for your love and support all these years. I remember all the beautiful moments with warmth,” writes Giorgi on Instagram.
She continues:
“There have been many false rumors surrounding my future, so I look forward to sharing more exciting opportunities ahead. It is a joy to share my life with you, so let’s continue this journey together.”
