“Mubadala Energy”: Indonesia’s second major gas discovery
Abu Dhabi: “The Gulf”
Mubadala Energy, the operator of the South Andaman joint production contract, announced another large gas discovery in the Tankulu-1 exploration well, which was drilled about 65 kilometers off the coast of the northern island of Sumatra, Indonesia.
This is the second deep water find operated by the company, as “Tankulu-1” was drilled at a depth of 3,400 meters in a water depth that reached 1,200 meters. This achievement was achieved a few months after the big discovery in the “Laiyaran-1” well, which is also in South Andaman.
The drilling process for the well “Tankulu-1” revealed a gas column with a thickness of 80 meters in a high-quality sandstone reservoir, where data and rock samples were collected, as well as conducting technical tests , analyzing pressure data, and taking fluid samples. Using an innovative well flow test design, excellent quality gas flow of over 47 million cubic feet per day and 1,300 barrels of condensate was achieved. Although testing was limited by the testing equipment available, estimates indicate that the well’s production capacity was between 80-100 million cubic feet per day, and over 2,000 barrels of condensate.
Mansour Mohammed Al Hamed, CEO of Mubadala Energy, said: “This discovery, which follows our recent success in Laiyaran-1, represents a turning point in the energy landscape in Indonesia and the Southeast region Asia in general. It also shows that the South Andaman region is one of the most important natural gas regions in the world. Through our work with our partners and using our world-class technical capabilities, we will certainly be able to realize the full potential of this sector, while meeting the ambitious time set by the government for the development phase. This discovery reinforces our efforts to play an active role in the energy transition, in line with our strategy focused on natural gas.”
With an 80% operating interest in the South Andaman concession area, Mubadala Energy owns the largest concession area in the region. According to the company’s strategy, which focuses on natural gas, the “Tankulu-1” well is one of the pillars for the development of natural gas concentration in the area, as this discovery promises more opportunities in ‘ south end, and appears. the potential for several trillion cubic feet of additional gas in nearby traps located within the flaring zone.
This discovery, together with “Layaran-1”, will add significant volume to production, as well as be a stable base for the growth of Mubadala Energy Company in the region through additional exploration and evaluation activities.
