When Brillith Gamarra began practicing judo in Ayacucho “it was not well regarded for women to practice contact sports.” Prejudices aside, she continued and embarked on a sporting career where “I have won, I have lost, where I have fallen I have gotten up again.” All of this ensures that it helped her leave behind her shyness and forge that brave character that characterizes her both inside and outside of her tatami.
Shortly after finishing school in Huamanga and due to her sporting triumphs, she was invited to train in Lima. She remembers that she had to take “a lot of courage and determination to be able to take the leap to be able to fight for my dreams.” Something that motivated her was seeing “how happy my family was with my results.”
In the last Lima Open Brillith won a silver medal in the category (-52 kg.). With this she reconfirms her classification to represent Peru, at the end of October, at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.
For her, these are “just small challenges” because her goal is not only to reach Paris 2024 but also to win a medal “because it would be nice to win a medal in the Olympic Games.”
