New Presidential Decree to Implement Changes in BPJS Health Services by June 2025

The place for classes 1, 2 and 3 of BPJS Health will officially apply to all hospitals no later than June 2025. This is stated in a copy of the Presidential Decree Republic of Indonesia Number 59 of 2024, The Third Amendment to Presidential Regulation Number 82 of 2018 on Health Insurance signed by President Joko Widodo May 8, 2024.

In Article 103A and Article 104 it is said that treatment room facilities applied to inpatient services within a standard class may be applied later in all hospital facilities or some facilities. As previously reported, standard patient class facilities have at least 12 requirements including:

1. The building components used do not have a high level of porosity

2. Air ventilation meets air exchange in the regular treatment room at least 6 (six) air changes per hour

3. Artificial room lighting follows general criteria of 250 lux for lighting and 50 lux for sleeping lighting

4. Bed equipment includes 2 (two) communication boxes and a nurse call on each bed

5. Each bed has a night stand

6. The room temperature can be maintained from 20 to 26 degrees Celsius

7. Rooms are divided by sex, age and type of disease (infectious and non-infectious)

8. The maximum density of patient rooms is 4 (four) beds, with a minimum distance between the edges of the beds of 1.5 meters

9. Curtains/parts with embedded rails attached to the ceiling or suspended

10. Bathroom in the patient room

11. Bathrooms comply with accessibility standards

12. Oxygen out

“If a hospital has implemented treatment room facilities for inpatient services based on General Classifications within the period before 3O June 2025,” explained the copy of the decision, which was announced . detikcom Monday (13/5/2024).

“​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Payment of fees by BPJS Health is made as per the hospital patient class tariff to which the participant is entitled as per the provisions of statutory regulations,” the decision continued.

After KRIS came into effect, the government continued to carry out evaluations to see how effective it was to implement national health insurance with new standards. The Minister of Health was appointed to provide appropriate guidance to health facilities, including ensuring that the KRIS criteria are properly implemented in various hospitals.

The results of this assessment will later form the basis for the official confirmation of benefits, rates and contributions for BPJS Health by KRIS which will be confirmed no later than 1 July 2025.
