Colombian government rejects Netanyahu’s statements against Petro

Bogota. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, on behalf of the government, today rejected the accusations of the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, against President Gustavo Petro and demanded respect for the leader of the South American country.

“President Petro’s fight for life, peace and justice goes beyond our borders, as does his support for multilateralism to preserve the coexistence of nations and avoid war,” said the released statement.

The Foreign Ministry added that Colombia does not sympathize with the Hamas group, strongly condemns its violence and has repeatedly demanded the release of the hostages.

Later, he described it as shameful that the demand for respect for international humanitarian law and support for international organizations is distorted as support for terrorism or anti-Semitism.

Colombia, the note noted, insists on the need for a ceasefire and the achievement of an agreement that puts an end to the suffering of civilians.

The statement occurs after Netanyahu wrote on his social network Palestinian.

In response, the ruler of Colombia also assured in that same social network that the Semites should not be the architects of a genocide because they suffered it.

“Just as the genocide of the Jewish people in Nazi Europe is inadmissible, so is the current genocide against the Palestinian people,” he stated.

He added that his democratic, republican, plebeian, secular and religious principles lead him to reject the barbarism that Netanyahu commits and which is called genocide and anti-humanity.

“If Gaza dies, humanity dies,” Petro also stated.

The day before, the Colombian president recommended to the United Nations Security Council to consider the establishment of a peace force in the Palestinian territory of Gaza, currently besieged by the Israeli army.

He also considered that the Prime Minister of Israel will not stop the genocide underway against the Gazans, which implies an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court.

In rejection of Israel’s indiscriminate bombings against the civilian population of Gaza, Colombia broke diplomatic relations with that State on May 2.
