Switzerland has won the Eurovision Song Contest. The professional juries were particularly impressed with the performance of Nemo, the first winner of the festival without a dare. Daily newspaper Trouw writes:
“Nemo’s performance was very impressive. They performed acrobatic tricks on a rotating disc and at the same time they sang flawlessly complex songs with different genres such as opera, rap and pop music.“
It was a much debated edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, partly because the group decided at the eleventh hour to exclude Dutchman Joost Klein. to exclude of the last show. Klein was disqualified for making a “threatening gesture” at a camerawoman who was following him in an obstructed manner shortly after his semi-final performance, despite requests not to do so.
The president of the EBU, Martin Österdahl, was promoted again on Saturday night. Part of the audience also started ‘Europapa’ by Joost Klein, when the Eden Golan Israel appeared on stage. Plus, there were boos – including moments when Israel scored points.
The decision to allow Israel to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest did not change despite the bloody war in Gaza. Laurens Bervoets, Eurovision reporter for Belgian newspaper De Morgen, telling Israel’s riots:
“Behind the scenes, some artists did not want to look at the Israeli delegation, some Israeli journalists tried to harass artists, partners were harassed, … These are all things that no one wants at the popular festival that is the official Eurovision Song Contest. It’s just not here. This could have been avoided by one simple decision: not allowing Israel to participate. I don’t expect to see the country again at the Eurovision Song Contest next year. This participation has threatened to stay in the music competition, in conjunction with other events of course.“
