Farmer women from Chimichagua lead a livestock project: ADR delivered 388 cows

Last Saturday, May 4, the first comprehensive production agricultural development project was delivered (PIDAR) to 97 farmers’ wives from Chimichagua. This project, with an investment that exceeds 5,000 million pesos, is part of the connection call made in 2023 with the Agency for Rural Development (ADR)with the ambitious goal of completing nearly 2,400 agricultural projects during the president’s term Gustavo Petro.

The beneficial women belong to the Chimicha Farmers Association (Ascadechi)who has been with the ADR for four months in the structure of this campaign.

The aim is that these young women, some of them teenagers, start their productive lives and join family agriculture, farmers and community. Miriam Cabrales, head of Ascadechi, She highlighted the importance of the project for the women farmers of Chimichagua, especially those who do not have economic opportunities.

“MUST BE IMPLEMENTED IN PRODUCTION”

In addition to delivering 388 cows and equipment to keep the herd, the ADR they will provide technical assistance to these young rural women, to improve their social, productive, financial and environmental practices, thus ensuring the long-term sustainability of the project.

This project also includes 28 young victims of the armed conflict, which represents a form of compensation and a step towards reconciliation in the area.

The president of Rural Development Agency, Luis Alberto Higueraon the importance of providing solutions to rural youth who have suffered the ravages of armed conflict: “With land and productive projects we combine Comprehensive Rural Reformbecause the land alone is not enough, but must be put into production.”
