Gvardiol, who has been playing out of position as an attacking left back, opened the scoring in the 13th minute by exchanging a one-two with Kevin De Bruyne before scoring with his right foot. He closed out the victory by sliding to meet Bernardo Silva’s cross with a shot that dribbled over the line in the 71st.
The Croatian international’s tally reached five goals in his last seven games. He had not scored a single goal in his previous 32 games for City.
Julián Álvarez added the fourth in the sixth minute of added time from the penalty spot after receiving a foul from Issa Diop, who received a second yellow card for the challenge.
City moved two points clear of Arsenal, who play Manchester United on Sunday in the first of their two remaining games.
