The world turning green is refreshing and refreshing, but it is a season of trials for the eyes. This is because pollen is blowing around so much that it collects visibly when windows are opened for ventilation.

The mucous membrane of the eye is exposed to the outside world, so when it comes into contact with certain antigens (substances that cause allergies) in the air, it can cause an allergic reaction and cause inflammation. This disease is ‘allergic conjunctivitis’, which is an allergic reaction to tree pollen antigens that are mostly present in certain seasons only, leading to seasonal allergic harmony.

However, patients with perennial allergic conjunctivitis who have an allergic reaction to seasonal allergens, such as house dust mites or animal dander, may have symptoms year-round. When fine dust or yellow dust gets worse, it becomes a reason for allergic conjunctivitis to increase.

Symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis can appear in a variety of ways, including itching, stinging, numbness, redness, tearing, discharge, and conjunctival edema. When you rub your eyes or wipe away secretions due to itchiness, secondary lesions may appear on the nose, and inflammation destabilizes the tear layer, becoming worse than dry eye syndrome. When antigens mix with tears and pass through the nasolacrimal duct to the back of the throat, an inflammatory response occurs in the nasal mucosa, which may be accompanied by symptoms of rhinitis or neck irritation.

Allergic conjunctivitis, which is commonly seen, is mostly a seasonal or permanent allergic conjunctivitis, so the symptoms are very mild and do not cause any serious problems. However, if symptoms of breast cancer appear relatively severe and persistent in children in the spring, ophthalmological care must be sought. This is because it may be spring keratoconjunctivitis rather than simple seasonal allergic conjunctivitis.

Keratoconjunctivitis can be accompanied by inflammation or ulceration of the cornea, and since it occurs mostly in children, it is important to receive appropriate treatment at an ophthalmology clinic to prevent side effects from affecting on vision. In addition, even in children or adults with atopic dermatitis who have a chronic allergic reaction, the continuous inflammation of the cornea and new blood vessels can lead to reduced vision, so regular eye care is necessary.

The basic treatment for allergic conjunctivitis is to avoid exposure to substances that cause allergies. Although it is difficult to prevent allergens in the air completely, in the case of seasonal allergic reactions, you can try to reduce going out in certain seasons or wearing safety glasses.

If you frequently apply artificial tears (artificial tears) to wash away antigens left on the surface of the eye and inflammatory substances caused by allergic reactions, and if you are prescribed by a consortium allergic, eye drops or short-term steroid eye drops to stabilize mast cells. play an important role in allergic reactions, It is helpful.

When your eyes are swollen and itchy, it is helpful to apply a cold compress around the eyes. If you rub your eyes too much because of itchiness, the inflammatory reaction can worsen and the symptoms worsen, and so you should avoid your eyes so much. as possible. Wearing contact lenses can also worsen the symptoms of allergic conjunctivitis, so it is advisable to stop wearing them for a while when pollen is rampant.
