Reece James’ return from injury today was a moment to celebrate, but in his post-match interview he revealed there have been dark moments too.
He has suffered so many problems over the past few years that it has been decided that he should undergo surgery to try and clear things up in the long term. But it’s not that simple.
According to the background, the recovery process from his hamstring surgery was too close to double what was expected to take after the operation in January.
“The process has been very slow. In the beginning, they told me I might be out for three months,” James said Chelsea TV.
“It’s been five months, so it’s taken its toll on me too. It’s been tough, but I’m so happy to be back and healthy now.”
Reece James celebrates his return to action.
It’s been a long hard road back for him, as it turns out. Football players often talk about the fact that the hardest part of enduring a long-term injury is as much mental as physical. They really want to be out there playing and helping their team but they can’t.
He can’t extend a date beyond his help, and that’s especially true in James’s case because he has to watch the weeks go by, knowing that his chances were to join Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s Euros is vacating. with all past games.
This must be just the latest in a string of serious injuries to add to the misery as well. However, he made the perfect comeback today, and it was great to see him carry himself after the game. Here’s hoping he can keep doing it victory in these last two games.
