Day 25: The Greek Justice at the service of Beu – 2024-05-12 03:08:19

The Day25 denounces the unprecedented and shameful situations that took place on Friday, May 10 in the courts of Volos, where the lawsuit filed by councilors of the Beu faction against residents of the city was being heard. The lawsuit concerns “exercise of violence” during a meeting of the Municipal Council, which took place 7 years ago and had as its subject the pollution of Pagasitikos Gulf.

Although the plaintiffs, who have already been convicted of perjury, have made every effort not to go to trial, the accused citizens are seeking a trial to reveal the extent of Bayou’s practices. In fact, when the plaintiffs were examined, they stated that they did not remember whether the defendants had actually used violence against them, while the mayor himself has stated that he does not wish this trial to take place.

Indeed, yesterday the court was suspended for… technical reasons, because there was no voice recorder, nor a monitor where the material from the controversial meeting of the Board of Directors could be presented. and to show what exactly had happened, so that the innocence of the citizens could be proven.

With the announcement of the new suspension of the trial, naturally tension and protests prevailed in the courtroom, where the presence of DIAS police officers was already strong. The citizens present shouted “shame” at the seat, and then the president of the court, Mrs. Eleni Beta, ordered that a young man be arrested and taken to prison. The arrested person was taken to the detention center without anyone explaining to him if and for what crime he was accused. After a while, the impromptu court was held for the young man, but the president herself appeared in the seat, to judge her own complaint. Despite the strong protests of the citizens’ lawyer (Z. Konstantopoulou), the president insisted that the young man be detained until 8 in the evening, without any charge and without any decision, probably only to… set an example.

The matter even reached the Supreme Court and after 2 hours of deliberations the young man was released after a request to revoke the detention was submitted, even though his detention was never officially decided and he was never charged.

From all of the above, it becomes obvious that the regime of fear that has been instilled in Volos by the Beu municipal authority has deep roots in the judicial system as well. The mayor is in direct confrontation with the residents and for his sake the entire legal framework is being circumvented along with the human rights of the citizens, in close cooperation with the supportive Mitsotakis government and the new criminal code.
