Dominic Thiem Announces Retirement After 2024 Season Due to Wrist Injury: Tennis World Reacts

It’s the event of the week: Dominic Thiem will soon put away his rackets. As we were talking about this Friday, in a video message posted on social networks, the Austrian announced that he would no longer play after the 2024 season. Since then, the whole world of tennis has come to an agreement to express his grief at the end of ‘Domi’s career.

Indeed, after fulfilling the dream of an entire generation, Thiem never recovered from his serious wrist injury, contracted in the summer of 2021.

Last Saturday, it was Alexander Zverev who wanted to discuss the Austrian case at a press conference. The German, close friends with Thiem in his life, wanted to pay tribute to him. After having several big fights with the former number 3 in the world, it seems that Sacha just wants to remember the positive: “It’s strange, it’s a bit my generation. It’s a shame he’s stopping because of injury, not because he thinks he’s played enough. We all know that the main reason is of course the wrist injury, which he has been struggling with for years. […] The truth is that I am losing one of my best friends on the tour. He is one of the greatest champions we have ever known. He was one of the few who could beat the three best players in the world (Nadal, Federer, Djokovic).
