London. West Ham manager David Moyes will leave the London club at the end of the season, when his contract expires, the Hammers announced on Monday.
The news comes a day after the 5-0 defeat against Chelsea in a Premier League derby.
West Ham are ninth in the English league table and have only won one of their last ten games, taking into account all competitions.
According to the press, the club already has a replacement and it would be the Spanish Julen Lopetegui, former Real Madrid coach and former national team coach. Lopetegui recently coached Wolverhampton in England (2022-2023).
Moyes, 61, came to the West Ham bench in 2019, after a first spell there (2017-2018). The Scottish coach celebrated leaving the club “in a better position than when he arrived.”
West Ham finished sixth in the Premier League in 2021 and seventh in 2022. In 2023 they won the Europa Conference League, their first trophy in 43 years.
David Moyes was former Everton manager, before succeeding his compatriot Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in 2013, but without success. He later managed Real Sociedad and Sunderland.
