The central event included the reading of a manifesto by the mayor of the city, the intervention of several students from the Concepcionistas school and the CEIP Santa Eulalia and the raising of the flag of the European Union
The Plaza Mayor hosted the institutional event organized by the Segovia City Council, through the Europe Direct Segovia center, on the occasion of Europe Day, commemorating the 74th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration.
The mayor of the city, José Mazarias, was in charge of reading the manifesto, remembering the history and values of the European Union such as democracy, human rights, equality, human dignity, freedom and the rule of law. thanks to which, the EU has achieved “a continent at peace, freedom for its inhabitants to live, study or work anywhere in the European Union, the largest single market in the world, aid and development assistance for millions of people in everyone. “We have built bridges and overcome divisions, showing that together we are stronger.”
The Segovia councilor has pointed out that “from the Segovia City Council we want to face the future challenges together within the framework of the European Union and, therefore, we want to institutionalize our support for the history, present and future of the European Union through this event and those that will be held in our city.” Furthermore, he recalled that Segovia is already a European City of Sports in 2025 and will participate in several European projects that will strengthen and improve the city, as well as the quality of life of its inhabitants.
After reading the manifesto, the students of the Conceptionistas school were in charge of reading a text in which, in addition to highlighting the importance of the European Union, they have claimed the importance of working together and united to achieve any objective. Behind them, several boys and girls from CEIP Santa Eulalia have displayed a banner focused on Europe and betting on diversity.
To finish, several schoolchildren from both educational centers raised the flag of the European Union, while Beethoven’s ninth symphony, the “Ode to Joy”, played by the “Sucussan” ensemble played in the background.
The programming to celebrate Europe Day has included the show “Europe is magical” by the magician Héctor San Segundo, in various educational centers throughout the day. Tomorrow, Friday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m., in the courtyard of the Casa de la Moneda, “Sucussan” will offer a commemorative concert to celebrate Europe Day and Europa Direct Segovia will launch a new edition of the online Gymkhana “Exploring Europe ”. The activities will end on May 16 with a talk about opportunities in Europe, at the Casa Joven in Segovia, at 6:00 p.m.
