Half the month with surprises: from May 15th Italy will be divided in two, with peaks of 36-37°C in the far South and storms in the North. In short, a nice sunny and pleasant weekend from North to South, with only a few small pitfalls: in the next few hours we will in fact find isolated showers on the hills of Calabria and eastern Sicily and some brief heat showers also in the Alps: it will still be business as usual weather of a typical sunny spring day.
Mother’s Day
On Sunday 12 May, Mother’s Day, instability will increase in the North with a few more storms in the Alps. Once these small pitfalls have been removed, we will experience an excellent weekend, confirming the ‘Blessing of Weekends 2024’ with scattered rain from Monday to Friday and sunshine prevailing on holidays.
Maximum temperatures rising
A sunny Italian Saturday, therefore, across 90% of the territory with maximum temperatures rising up to 27°C spread across the Major Islands (peaks of 30°C in Sardinia) and up to 25-26°C also in the Centre-North.
Sunday above 30 degrees
On Sunday 12 May the thermometer will show a + sign with highs above 30°C in Sicily and Sardinia, up to 28°C in the southern peninsula, 27°C in Bologna, Ferrara, Florence, Forlì, Mantua and Terni, 26°C widespread on the rest of the flat territory.
The African blaze
A very pleasant weekend and at times almost hot, but nothing compared to the early heat waves of a few years ago in May; Unfortunately, however, an African flare-up is around the corner, ready to ignite in the next few days also in part of our country. Surprises will arrive from mid-month: between Sicily and lower Calabria the thermometer will record human fever with values above 36-37°C in the shade.
Rain in the North on May 15th
These full summer peaks are expected as early as May 15th and also on May 16th and 17th, in a scorching 3 days which will however contrast with the very humid North: on May 15th more than 100 mm of rain is expected in the North-West (especially under Varese ) and not only that, the storms will most likely hit the entire North between Tuesday 14th and Friday 17th on several occasions, especially the Alps, Pre-Alps and nearby plains.
