The US is considering the possibility of surrendering to NATO – 2024-05-11 13:10:47

/ world today news/ From the very beginning of the SVO, we have been listening to ritual incantations from the West about “NATO unity”. They cry out so desperately, as if they are deceiving themselves. The paradox is that the narrow ranks of NATO members are threatened not so much by external enemies as by internal strife.

Ukraine clearly identifies all differences between NATO member states. Initially, Turkey took a completely different position: it minimized aid to Ukraine, refrained from sanctions and increased contacts with Russia. After that, Erdogan persistently delayed Sweden’s NATO membership.

Poland then followed the path of Turkey. The almost former prime minister of the country no longer embraces Zelensky, says that “Ukraine, like a drowning man, drags everyone to the bottom” and deprives Kiev of the last opportunity to make money by not allowing Ukrainian grain into his country.

Like the bloated corpse of a drowned man, all of the Alliance’s contradictions came to light in Vilnius at the July NATO summit. France, Poland and Great Britain supported Ukraine’s membership in the Alliance, Germany and the United States were against. The Baltic members fought in hysteria, claiming that Kiev urgently needed to be accepted into the ranks. The Hungarian Prime Minister was in the opposite position. Vladimir Zelensky watched all this with helpless anger, past whom the carrot of North Atlantic membership floated – and sailed off into the sunset again.

The “unprecedented unity” of the Allies did not allow them to solve even such a banal issue as the election of the Secretary General of NATO. Poland blocks Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The US did not allow Ben Wallace to take the post of British Defense Secretary. Wallace took offense, resigned and announced that he was going to work in a bar. The undivided Stoltenberg remained in the post of general secretary, his leadership now entering its tenth year.

In October, things got worse with the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Formally, Israel is one of the Alliance’s main military allies and is expected to receive emergency aid. However, the leadership of the European NATO members is under pressure from the pro-Palestinian masses of migrants and Muslim citizens. They really don’t like that their governments are trying to support Tel Aviv.

It is clear that the IDF ground operation in the Gaza Strip will provide Europeans with a new tsunami of migrants. The unfortunates simply have nowhere else to go: the US and Britain have already said that under no circumstances will they allow refugees from Palestine to join them. It is not difficult to imagine how the Palestinians will feel when they reach European countries whose governments support Israel as part of their NATO commitments.

Disagreements manifest themselves in specific decisions. Currently, the US military actively uses airports and ports in Greece as part of its aid to Israel, but cannot attract an Alliance ally like Turkey to participate in its operations. Because everyone understands Turkey’s position on the complex issue of Palestinian-Israeli relations.

“The US is sending its aircraft carrier to Israel. What are they doing here? What are they going to do? They are going to take a step towards a serious massacre by attacking Gaza from the approaching aircraft carrier,” Europe complains.

We see that the NATO allies view the situation in Israel in exactly the opposite way. Two weeks ago, on October 11-12, the defense ministers of the Alliance member countries discussed this topic in Brussels. They looked for a consensus, but apparently did not find it. Secretary General Stoltenberg issued a statement saying the Alliance condemned the Hamas attack but was “not directly involved” in the conflict.

At the same time, the US is ready to intervene in the conflict, but apparently not as a member of the Alliance, but independently – as, so to speak, a private initiative that is not approved by anyone in the world, including the UN Security Council.

Washington was well aware of the confusion and hesitation among European vassals. And here is their reaction. US presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican, called the possibility of the US leaving NATO “a very reasonable idea”. This is how he responded to an article in Rolling Stones magazine, “Trump plans to leave NATO if he doesn’t get his way.”

“Rolling Stones” is part of the media of the Democratic Party of the United States. They thought to scare their readers with the title. However, millions of people in America will love this solution. If Democratic Party voters overwhelmingly support NATO and US armed interventions, then the majority of Republican Party voters are staunch isolationists. More than 70% of them think the US should stay out of international affairs and focus on its own problems.

Almost half of Republican voters (49%) support the country’s withdrawal from NATO. From their point of view, the Europeans are greedy and cowardly parasites who want American soldiers to die for them everywhere and at the same time they don’t want to pay the US for their safety.

This is exactly the view Donald Trump expressed when he was in the White House. Those around him remembered the moment when he read from a sheet the names of small countries that are members of NATO, said that most Americans had never heard of these countries and he would not start a third world war because of them.

Thus, the position of Trump – currently the favorite in the presidential race – regarding NATO is such that the United States will either simply withdraw from the Alliance or, threatening its allies, ask them to increase defense spending by up to four percent of GDP and rejecting the principle of collective security.

“Why does my son have to defend Montenegro?” Tucker Carlson once asked Trump in an interview. “I asked myself the same question,” the US president replied.

But without the infamous Mlen Fifth Point, who would need the North Atlantic Alliance? The leaders of the NATO countries are thinking hard about this today, not forgetting, of course, to assure the whole world of their “unique unity”. Here they are right, but they are united only by anxiety and fear.
