Jude Bellingham recognized that his great season at Real Madrid, with which he has scored 22 goals and eight assists, is “credit” to his coach, Carlo Ancelotti, for his change of demarcation with respect to Borussia Dortmund and the “freedom” that he concede.
«It is the role that suits me best on this team. “When I have the freedom to go up, down, pass the last line and have the ball to play and create, I feel very good and I feel like I can get involved in any action of the game and try to do my defensive job as well,” he said in an interview with UEFA.
«The credit goes to the coach for giving me that license. It’s not easy to see someone who has played in a lower position for so long at Dortmund and find something that makes you think that I would do well playing a little higher up. Honestly, all the credit goes to Ancelotti », he added.
Winner of LaLiga and the Spanish Super Cup in his first season at Real Madrid, Jude wants to put the finishing touch with the ‘Champions’.
«I only think about the collective objectives. People talk about everything else. I always think about the colleagues I work with, who are there in the bad times and with whom you enjoy the good times. And how nice it would be to lift all those trophies together and reward the work that everyone has done during the season. That is the ultimate goal of football. “If we talk in a year, I would like to have a ‘Champions’ and be in another semi-final,” he wished.
Bellingham acknowledged that he “didn’t think” he would reach success “so quickly”, happy with the demands he has found at Real Madrid that helps him improve in each game.
«This club is always the best you can aspire to in football. It has been the level I wanted to reach and could reach, but I didn’t think it would reach so quickly. I feel grateful every day for being able to represent Real Madrid. It’s a big part of my life now, it’s my life actually. “It was always my goal,” he stated.
«Here you learn to recognize the legends of the past. The values and identity of the club are built on those legends who carried this shield so well before us. It is important to follow the legacy and the values that they set and that is what I try to do,” he added.
The English midfielder revealed that his number, number 5, was the one his father wore with a white Zinedine Zidane shirt. «I asked him who that player was that he was wearing on his shirt and he told me that when he was older we would see him on YouTube. Now, that I’m wearing number 5, it’s a great story,” he said.
Finally, he valued the teamwork to make up for the moments of the season in which he was not present due to injury or his performance dropped after a record start.
«I enjoy being a Real Madrid player, in the good times and the bad, when you have to get up and try again. Everything that has to do with playing at the highest level in such a big club seems incredible to me. “You have to enjoy the feeling of being in the trenches and thinking that it is not a good time but take responsibility and help the team get out of those bad moments,” he stated.
