The MIRA I space plane prototype crashed on takeoff. This happened before he could test the most innovative part of his design – his engines, writes New Atlas.

MIRA I was flying at about 100 mph (169 km/h) when “landing gear feedback” combined with a strong crosswind caused a “hard landing.” As a result, damage occurs to the hull of the space plane.
The main systems are intact, but Polaris has chosen to move directly to testing the 5-meter MIRA II and III prototypes.
The space plane is driven by aeroship rocket engine. Born nearly 70 years ago, these engines have never been tested outside of a laboratory. Polaris has already made history by running one such engine during a previous test.
The advantage of this design is important because it is easier to control the rocket jet and the engine is just as efficient in all phases of flight.
The MIRA space plane is designed to be reusable. The project is attracting the interest of the European Space Agency, which is behind in the field of manned spacecraft.
