More than one in five EU citizens is 65 or older, and the number is increasing rapidly. The Municipality of Linköping works together with seven European regional partners to find solutions for the elderly care of the future. On May 14-15, Linköping will host a conference where the participants will learn from each other’s good examples.
It is the R&D Center that, together with seven other European regional partners, is now meeting in Linköping. All participants are part of the project “Remote Healthcare for Silver Europe (CARES)”, with the goal of improving and developing welfare. The R&D Center includes Östergötland’s 13 municipalities, an inter-municipal organization that works for research and development in care, care and social work. The municipality of Linköping is the principal of the R&D Centre.
The collaborative project CARES is about increasing the ability of care providers to provide good and easily accessible care with the help of technology. The aim is also to learn from each other between the European countries and take part in the good examples of all parties to see if it can help to improve the work in our own region. For the R&D Center, the hope is to strengthen and develop inter-municipal collaborations in Östergötland on a strategic level.
The project is based on the major demographic challenge facing Europe with an aging population. In 2021, 20% of the EU’s population was 65 or older, and the number is increasing rapidly. Actions need to be taken now to be able to guarantee future care for the elderly and the quality of healthcare.
Important to learn from each other
Now the project will meet in Linköping next week, Tuesday and Wednesday, May 14-15, to make study visits and discuss Swedish welfare. During the conference, visitors will learn more about Swedish welfare and its challenges, as well as take part in four good examples from Östergötland regarding digital solutions and e-health.
– It is important that we highlight and showcase the good examples of welfare technology and digital solutions that we have here in Östergötland both for us in the region and for European partners. The conference in CARES provides an opportunity to learn from each other and be inspired to move forward and try and develop new solutions, says Lina Helgstrand, project manager, R&D Center in Linköping.
– The opportunity to learn and be inspired by others is a priority for us in order to achieve success in developing improved working methods with the help of digital technology. When we also go beyond our own national borders, we take important steps to rethink cultures and forms for organizing the welfare of the future, says Per-Otto Waern, Deputy Director of Health and Welfare
