Their meeting was held in a very useful setting, far from the surroundings that Bankman-Fried was familiar with. After revealing himself to be physically weak but mentally strong, he adapted admirably to his new circumstances. Bankman-Fried’s daily life is now dictated by the strict routines of prison life. The food, mostly impossible for his vegan preferences, forces him to live on rice and beans from the grocery store – now a currency among prisoners. Interestingly, Dohan said Bankman-Fried does not believe he committed any crimes. According to Dohan, Sam wondered why he was charged when no one at Bear or Lehman was charged. According to the Bankman-Fried theory, he is not in jail for embezzling FTX and Alameda assets. He considers himself innocent and believes that prosecutors simply presented him with the charges and then gave him the choice to accept them, plead guilty, or go to trial and fight.

Despite the seriousness of his situation, Bankman-Fried showed his previous analytical knowledge, talking about the prison economy by referring to his old entrepreneurial spirit. The conversation also touched on darker themes, such as Bankman-Fried’s loneliness and dangerous sense of danger, even though he has so far remained physically unharmed. Judge Lewis Kaplan sentenced Bankman-Fried to 25 years in prison, citing his false statements and tampering with witnesses.
