Former World No. 3 has announced the end of his career – 2024-05-10 12:00:13

Austria’s top tennis player Dominik Thiem has made an emotional address to confirm his retirement from tennis at the end of the season. Thiem, 30, is the US Open champion, but has been plagued by a series of injuries and surgeries in the past three years and has been unable to come close to his former high level. He is currently ranked 117th in the ATP World Rankings, and was No. 3 in the spring of 2020.

“Hello, I have a very important, very sad, but also good message to tell you. The 2024 season will be the last of my career, I will finish after it. There are reasons for this decision. First of all my wrist which isn’t what it should be and didn’t recover the way I wanted it to. The second reason is my feelings. I have been thinking about this decision for a very long time. I thought about it carefully, I went back to my whole path as a tennis player, which was amazing. I had success, I won trophies that I had never dreamed of. I had highs and lows. It was an amazing experience for which I am very grateful. The decision to end my career at the end of the season is the only right one and I am happy with it. I’m very excited about everything that happens next,” said Thiem in his address to fans.

In his career, the Austrian tennis player has 17 singles titles, in addition to the title in New York, there are finals at the Australian Open and Roland Garros, and he has won more than 30 million dollars in prize funds, writes BTA.
