During it, the challenges and topical issues of public health care for the coming academic year were reviewed, and good practices were shared with specialists.

“Public health offices operating in municipalities today are the main pillar that helps ensure health promotion activities throughout Lithuania, including educational institutions operating in their territory. In order to adapt to the changing conditions, it is necessary to assess progress every year and look several steps ahead – predict what challenges lie ahead in the coming school year and prepare for them,” says Audrius Ščeponavičius, director of the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Health.

Vidita Jonaitė, head of the Kaišiadorių District Public Health Office (VSB), says that a public health specialist in an educational institution is an important helper for the administration and teachers. “He is a person who has a large amount of knowledge based on science, is very creative and constantly improves his knowledge. Therefore, in institutions that accept a public health specialist in their school team, the result is clearly felt”, says V. Jonaitė.

And other long-term problematic issues are not going anywhere, for example, the organization of day rest in pre-school and pre-school educational institutions or primary and basic educational institutions, the sensitive issue of electronic cigarettes”, says V. Jonaitė.
