British drug manufacturer AstraZeneca is withdrawing its Covid-19 vaccine worldwide, reports The Telegraph newspaper. Now that many other vaccines are available, demand for AstraZeneca’s drug has fallen sharply, the company said.
In 2021, the pharmaceutical company admitted that the vaccine can cause TTS in very rare cases. TTS stands for thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome and can lead to blood clots and a low platelet count.
The vaccine, known as Vaxzevria, can no longer be used in the European Union now that AstraZeneca has withdrawn it, the newspaper said.
In the United Kingdom, a class action lawsuit is underway against AstraZeneca because use of its vaccine has caused serious injury and sometimes even death in dozens of cases.
