San Marcelino gave the surprise of the day by beating the leader Apulo Ilopango 4-2 on the sixth date of the men’s group B of the Beach Soccer League CEL Cup 2024.
The La Paz team went undefeated in five games against the host of the day and in the stellar match that closed the actions at the Apulo National Stadium.
The leader once again had its star scorer Jason Urbina, after surgery for two hernias, but he was complicated by Gabriel Reyes’ own goal at the beginning of the game and was not as good as in other games.
San Marcelino capitalized well on the gift of the own goal and managed to maintain a 2-1 lead in the first set thanks to another score by Medardo Cortez, while “El Mago” Urbina managed to score for the local team.
The second period closed with a 3-1 that Dennis Martínez achieved and in the last episode Miguel Zepeda’s score was decisive when the Lagunero team advanced ranks, got within striking distance of a tie with Reyes’ goal and went in search of the comeback.
The Ilopaneco team will continue in first place in the group with five victories and 15 points, but already with the first stain on its sheet and equal in points with San Marcelino.
In the Ilopaneca arena, La Herradura also celebrated an important victory by beating Rayos del Bajo Lempa 4-1, which is still in the doldrums and in last place.
For La Herradura it was a decisive victory to remain in third place with nine points and dream of being part of the first category teams.
José Natanael Basurto led the victory of the La Paz team with three well-made goals and a good display of technique and courage. The other score was by Noé Cruz and Noé Reyes scored for the Vincentians.
Costa del Sol also had a celebration by beating Joya Grande 5-3, a result that helped them climb from fifth to fourth place.
In the coastal victory, Adonis Olla stood out, scoring a hat-trick of his own and finishing off the rival who was uncomfortable and was in the fight with a three-goal from Jerry Aldana.
Barra de Santiago does not forgive
For its part, Barra de Santiago remains the undefeated leader of the men’s group A after defeating BS UES 8-0, a game in which Heber Ramos extended the celebration of his 34th birthday with a poker of goals.
The match had an even start in which the two-time champions managed to score two goals in the first period, which were scored by Heber and Josué Avilés.
The Ahuachapaneco team managed to extend its dominance in the next round with two goals from the birthday boy to make it 4-0. The victory was completed with the scores of Víctor Mejía, Frank Velásquez, Jossimar Martínez and a shot by Ramos.
Today Barra de Santiago reached 18 points and 42 goals in favor to consolidate itself as the only leader.
For BS UES it was only an emotional blow, since they managed to retain second place ahead of Garita Palmera, who beat Teotepeque 11-7 and is third with 10 units.
The other Ahuachapaneco team accounted for the representative of La Libertad with four goals from Rafael Rizo and a hat trick from Carlos Ayala Puquir, which showed their quality at the Apulo Stadium.
In the third game of the men’s group A, Barra Ciega secured three more points for its team with the 10-4 victory against San Salvador, which accumulated its fifth defeat.
