MADRID, 7 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
IDB Invest has invested up to $15 million in the ‘Sustainable Food Fund Latam I, SLP’ of the asset manager ResponsAbility to support sustainable agribusiness in Latin America and the Caribbean and benefit global food security.
The activity of this fund will focus on Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Chile, in addition to investing in Central America and the Caribbean. The investments will be in structured debt mainly in medium-sized fruit and vegetable producers, with an impact strategy in sustainable agriculture aimed at strengthening value chains with a climate focus.
The investment from IDB Invest, along with the fund’s general partner and other partners, helped the fund reach its second close of $123 million, and is on track toward its ultimate goal of between $200 million and $250 million.
In addition, IDB Invest will provide advisory services to build capacity, strengthen the fund’s sustainability, and adopt Paris Alignment strategies.
This is the first time that IDB Invest has invested with impact manager ResponsAbility Investments AG. Additionally, this will be ResponsAbility’s first fund entirely dedicated to the Latin America and Caribbean region and is managed by an experienced team based in Mexico and Peru.
By providing mezzanine financing, operational expertise, a network of strategic partners and a sustainability perspective for your investments, ResponsAbility will support the growth and regional expansion of medium-sized companies in the fruit and vegetable sector.
The fund will contribute to the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), Industry, innovation and infrastructure (SDG 9), Responsible production and consumption (SDG 12) and Action for the climate (SDG 13). Additionally, other SDGs will be supported through ResponsAbility’s overall environmental and social program.
