This Tuesday, the O’Higgins Region witnessed intense rainfall that caused flooding problems in several sectors. In Machalí, from kilometer 12 of the El Cobre Highway, the snow began to fall. The intense snowfall on the Coya slope forced Carabineros to close the El Cobre Highway at the El Guindal intersection, located at kilometer 10, due to traffic difficulties.
The rains spread across several regions of the country, with Rancagua in the O’Higgins Region being one of the most affected with 22.8 mm recorded.
The meteorological phenomenon also brought with it a cold wave, which was key for the snow to remain intact in the place. And despite the difficulties that the bad weather front brought with it, there were many families who, defying the cold and humidity, went to the snow-capped mountains of Carretera El Cobre to enjoy the white postcard with their families.
And boy was it worth it! Children building snowmen, parents throwing snowballs at each other and everyone marveling at the natural spectacle that snowfall offered in the middle of May.
Even though the weather was still cold and wet, the atmosphere was filled with joy and excitement. The blanket of ice attracted numerous visitors who, with coats and scarves, prepared to spend a different day, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Even the predicted cold wave was not enough reason for families to stop, nor did it intimidate those who wanted to enjoy the snow.
It should be noted that the weather in O’Higgins for the next few days will remain cold, with temperatures ranging between 5°C and 16°C, so the population is recommended to wear warm clothing, gloves and a scarf.
This Wednesday, May 8, a particularly cold day was recorded, with minimum temperatures of 1°C and maximum temperatures of 13°C. For Thursday, May 9, a slight improvement is expected with minimums of 5°C and maximums of 16°C, while on Friday, May 10, temperatures will range between 6°C and 15°C.
