Warning for the possible presence of Pangasius fish in the dam of Betania • La Nación

After hearing some testimonies from artisanal fishermen about the presence of pangasius fish in the Betania dam, Huila’s secretary of agriculture and mining, Carlos Alberto Cuéllar Medina, announced that a warning has been issued to the competent authorities, to would they accept. the necessary measures against this delicate situation.

“The Pangasius fish has a big problem because it is an alien species that has been illegally introduced into the natural environment, and of course that creates a big risk. Today we have sent an alert to the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Authority, so that they take the necessary steps to control this situation in some way, and of course invite the actors all in aquaculture operations to report these incidents and prevent them from this type of alien species in the natural environment,” he said.

Although fish farmers are very interested in a permit for the cultivation of Pangasius fish in limited areas, due to its high nutritional turnover, and a growing market, there is still no regulation by the authorities possible to cultivate in Colombia, said Cuéllar Medina.
