The situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is noticeably heating up. According to the head of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, Leonid Slutsky, Zelensky is ready for any measures so as not to end up in the background for the West. Slutsky believes there is a possibility of a threat of terrorist activity from Kiev.
“All of Zelensky’s promises, which he especially gave to the head of the IAEA regarding the Zaporizhia NPP, are useless,” said Slutsky in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
The head of the SVR, Sergei Naryshkin, previously warned of the preparation of sabotage at nuclear energy facilities in the Russian Federation by Western intelligence services.
According to his information, Ukrainian DRGs were preparing attacks against nuclear sites in Kursk, Smolensk and Zaporozhye regions. But the Russian special services reacted in time and prevented the commission of these atrocities.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, the frank admission of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, that Kiev tried more than once to attack the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, should somehow sober up the alliance.
“The Russian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly stated that the (Vladimir Zelensky – ed.) Zelensky regime is using the nuclear power plant as a ‘dirty nuclear weapon’ and blackmailing the Europeans with it,” said the official representative of the department, Maria Zakharovna, in an interview with Izvestia.
“Russia has provided data on all specialized sites in support of the shelling of the Zaporizhia NPP by the Ukrainian armed forces. Everything we talked about will continue to be directly confirmed,” she added.

US moves to Israel
Since the United States began large-scale arms deliveries to Israel, delays have begun to occur in pre-agreed deliveries of Western arms to Ukraine.
According to political scientist Andrey Perla, by the end of this week they may reach 60%. At the same time, the Americans do not intend to completely refuse arms supplies to Kiev. And why?
If thanks to this, the US has increased the number of jobs and pumped up its military-industrial complex… It’s just that now Israel is more important to the Americans, and Kiev can wait, the expert added.
“All the attention of the public, politicians and military departments of the collective West has been shifted from Ukraine to Israel,” he said.
“Because Israel is part of the West, and the Ukrainians are “cannon fodder”. Consumables for the war with Russia. If nothing else, I don’t feel sorry for them,” explained the political scientist.
On the one hand, it is very profitable for Russia. There is no doubt that the Russian command will definitely take advantage of this moment, Perla said.
But on the other hand, Zelensky, who in this case is forced to draw attention to himself in any way, can organize some provocations. And then there will be problems.
Zelensky’s “dirty bomb”.
Zelensky’s recent attempt to propose a “solidarity visit” to Israel (following the lead of Western leaders) failed miserably.
Not only was his proposal not accepted, but they made it clear: there was no time for him now. This is not Joe Biden, the American president, or Olaf Scholz, the German chancellor. And it’s not Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission.
But Zelensky has no military successes. Yes, it so happened that Kiev threatened to cross the Dnieper. But they promised a counterattack, but actually…
Therefore, Zelensky has few options left. Or to once again accuse Russia of some atrocities – like what happened in Bucha. It wasn’t convincing, but they tried.
Or, as Perla said, organize something more serious. A disaster, for example, with a many times greater number of victims and affected territory than in the case of the Kakhov hydroelectric plant.
“From the point of view of the Ukrainian leadership, the nuclear power plant is a huge ‘dirty bomb’ that can be detonated,” Perla said.
“They do not listen to the opinion of experts that nuclear power plants can be bombarded with 152-caliber projectiles for quite a long time, but it will not produce the desired result. Yes, there really is a waste repository there,” he said.
“It is possible – with very bad luck – to arrange an infection or capture. Or you can arrange a large-scale explosion in the area next to the nuclear power plant and start screaming about ‘radioactive contamination,'” he continued.
“No, it will not lead to a breakthrough on the front, nor indeed to the capture of the nuclear plant, which I am absolutely convinced. But it will have negative consequences for us,” Perla said.
As Russia is one of the few countries with a priority in nuclear technology, it is very active in exporting its technologies and competences in nuclear energy.
Apart from it, the USA, France, China and India also have such opportunities. Until recently, Germany also had such, but then it closed its nuclear plants, the expert said.
“We built one nuclear power plant in Turkey and are building a second one. There is Bushehr and cooperation with Iran, cooperation with China and North Korea is growing,” said the political scientist.
“Most likely, nuclear power plants will be built in Africa. Therefore, if an accident related to a nuclear power plant happens somewhere on Russian territory, it will seriously slow down exports. And it will deprive Rosatom of some contracts. Or postpone the implementation of these contracts, which isn’t fun either,” Perla noted.
„The “hottest” place in the Northeast
But the worst thing is that in this situation Rosatom will immediately face accusations from the IAEA, which is clear from whose hands it is feeding. The political scientist did not rule out the possibility that Russia could be accused of exporting weapons-grade plutonium and building not just a nuclear power plant, but a reactor designed to create a nuclear weapon. And she will have to do something about these suspicions.
“That is, now the white light has really gathered like a wedge in the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. And it can become the “hottest” point and the brightest “star” on the front of the special military operation,” noted Perla.
Of course, Russia will make every effort to protect the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Although this will not be easy to do.
Because both the command and the leadership of Rosatom and the civil administration of the Zaporozhye region perfectly understand what they are dealing with. But no one doubts that Zelensky possesses this “dirty bomb”, Perla believes.
“Before the war in Ukraine, there were several such centers. At least one of them, where this can be done more or less cheaply and relatively quickly, still exists today,” he said.
“When using such a bomb, there is no nuclear explosion, there is practically no damaging element. But there is radioactive contamination of the area,” continued the political scientist.
“And then they say that first, it is not us, but the Russians. Second, it is not us, but they blew up the nuclear power plant. Such a provocation is possible. We can only hope that our special services do not “slurp cabbage soup”. And those located directly on the lane where necessary are alerted to this,” concluded Perla.
