Deifry Méndez and Jason Molina will continue in the ISA World Junior Surfing 2024 repechage – – 2024-05-07 20:02:40

Deifry Méndez and Jason Molina finished in third place in their respective heats of the U16 men’s first round and will continue their participation in the repechage of the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2024, which takes place on El Sunzal and La Bocana beaches.

Méndez finished in the third box of his heat with a total of 6.80 points. The winner of the roll was the Australian Lachlan Arghyros, achieving 11.77 units, while the Chilean Reimundo Berry was second with 8.77 and Sheng.Yang Chen (Taipei) was last with 2.77.

Meanwhile, Molina added 8.33 points and placed third in the last heat corresponding to the first round. Spaniard Dylan Donegan dominated the heat and advanced as group leader with a score of 16.70, which includes the third best wave of the day for the U16 men’s category (8.93). Chilean Pascual Llorens (13.14) was second and Bo-Yu Chen, from Taipei, was fourth with 5.10.

Yesterday, Héctor Flores finished fourth by achieving 6.00 units and will also compete in the playoffs.

Deifry Méndez, who is participating in this tournament for the first time, stated that he feels happy with what he achieved in the main heat. “I feel proud of myself for the performance I gave in my debut. I have been practicing this sport for four years, my biggest idol is Bryan Pérez. He gives me advice, he tells me that before entering the water you have to pray and thank God,” commented the 14-year-old surfer.

For his part, Molina assured that coming in third place in his heat was not what he had worked for, but that in the next one he will show his abilities and what he has prepared for.

“I am super happy to represent my country, I know it is not the result I wanted, but we tried. I made a mistake, but you learn from it. I started surfing when I was five years old and it was practical thanks to the influence of my family since everyone practices it.” expressed the 15-year-old national.

Although the Salvadorans did not advance in the main round, tomorrow they will continue in the playoffs, so they remain in competition, “something relevant for the host country,” said Karlo Mejia, coach of the Salvadoran team.

“I am very happy because I know that it is important for the kids to be able to participate in these events, so that they feel calm and have experience. In general, El Salvador is improving a lot in sport, we are making it more professional, working on the psychological, physical and tactical part and above all having more discipline,” Mejia highlighted.
