Road charges: Open myCAR to pay by the month – What changes in 2025 – 2024-05-07 19:54:39

Those who plan to travel to exercise their right to vote in the European elections have the option to pay traffic fees. And this as the AADE opened the myCAR platform through which taxpayers have the possibility to proceed with the digital removal of the immobility of their vehicle and pay traffic fees for as many months as they want to circulate it until the end of the year.

One, for example, the owner of an I.X. car with an annual fee of 120 euros proceed to digitally immobilize his vehicle for a month, (e.g. in June), he will only pay traffic fees of 10 euros. However, when the period for which he has paid traffic fees expires, he will have to immobilize his car again in order not to be faced with a fine amounting to twice the traffic fees.

What changes in road tax from next year

Those who want to circulate their car that has been immobilized for one or more months should know the following:

1. Via the myCar platform, an electronic immobilization is carried out for passenger cars and motorcycles, which have been immobilized electronically. The possibility of electronically immobilizing vehicles occupies the vehicles that appear “at a standstill” in the AADE Vehicle Information System, and these vehicles as well as their traffic data are in the possession of their owners.

2. To lift the immobility it is necessary:

– The payment of the traffic fees of the year during which the immobility is lifted or the proportional/monthly traffic fees, which correspond to the time period of immobility being lifted.

– The existence of an active vehicle insurance contract. The check of an active insurance policy is carried out through a web service with the association of insurance companies.

– The submission of the request to lift immobility. Submitting a lift request even if road tax and security have been paid is considered a necessary action to complete the lift. If the request is not submitted, the vehicle remains in “electronic immobility” and penalties are imposed in the event of an inspection. In addition to the traffic fees and the fine for non-payment of those provided for, an administrative fine of 10,000 euros is also imposed, while in the case of a repeat offense, the fine rises to 30,000 euros, and, by decision of the legally competent body, the owner’s driver’s license is revoked for three years or owner of the vehicle.

3. In contrast to the applications for immobilizing the vehicle, in the applications for lifting the electronic immobility there is no provision for the procedure of submitting an amending statement, in case the initial application has been finalized.

4. The owners of the vehicles may remove this immobility once within the year 2024, paying the twelfths of the annual traffic fees corresponding to the months of this removal. Therefore, for the removal of immobility for a period of 1 month, 1/12 of the annual traffic fees corresponding to the vehicle is paid, for the removal of immobility for a period of 2 months, 2/12 of the amount of the annual traffic fees corresponding to the vehicle is paid, for the removal of immobility for a period of 3 months, 3/12 of the amount of the annual traffic fees corresponding to the vehicle are paid, etc.

5. The right to temporarily lift immobility by paying proportional digital or voluntary traffic fees to D.O.Y.) is granted only once within the year. Those who wish to move the vehicle for a period of time longer than the one already selected, if they have already submitted the request for the removal of immobility, will have to pay the remaining amount of the annual traffic fees.

6. An immobility period of less than a month is counted as a whole month and an amount equal to one-twelfth of the annual traffic fees is paid for it.

7. When the period of movement for which proportional traffic fees have been paid expires, the vehicle must be immobilized immediately, specifically on the last working day of the month or the first working day of the following month, if the last day is a holiday.

8. In any case where an owner or occupier chooses to immobilize his vehicle before the completion of the time period for which proportional traffic fees have been paid, due to the removal of the immobility, it is not possible to re-use the measure of partial removal.

9. The only case for the removal of immobility again is if the annual traffic fees are paid minus the amount of traffic fees that has already been proportionally paid.

10. For the vehicles whose registration data is filed with the D.O.Y. income tax of the owner or owner, the removal of immobility is carried out at the D.O.Y., while the reimmobilization is carried out electronically by the owner or owner of the vehicle.

11. Especially in the case of a deceased owner/co-owner or owner and only if the vehicle has not been transferred to the heirs, the location or removal of the immovable property is carried out exclusively at the D.O.Y.

12. In case of co-ownership of the vehicle, all co-owners must agree whether the vehicle is to be digitally immobilized or it is to be removed.

13. When the vehicle is stationary, if the vehicle has been moved to a point other than the one originally declared, the stationary point must be re-declared.

14. Immobilization overdue or not immobilizing, incurs an independent fine equal to twice the annual traffic fees corresponding to the vehicle, minus twice the amount of already paid twelfths thereof.
