In a confrontation full of intensity, San Salvador defeated Lobos with a final score of 65-53 in the match played at the Inclusive Sports City. This result meant an important step for the capital’s team, who regained the lead in the 2024 Apertura Tournament Copa Tigo Sports of the Major Basketball League (LMB).
Josué Ávila stood out as the main figure of the capital team, contributing with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Alejandro Barahona contributed another 19 to the scoreboard. Marc Montavious was also instrumental in the victory, with 21 rebounds, 12 of them defensive. For Lobos, Robert Story led the offense with 14 points, while Michael Hinestroza completed a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
With this victory, San Salvador consolidated its position as the lone leader in the classification table, with 28 units, closely followed by Metapán and Santa Ana, which have 27 and 26, respectively. For its part, Lobos remains in seventh place in the standings, with 19 points, after this defeat in the Inclusive Sports City.
The first quarter began at a breakneck pace, with Lobos taking a slight 15-19 lead over San Salvador. Both teams showed solid defense, but it was Chalchuapa who managed to capitalize on their offensive opportunities to take the initial lead.
In the second episode, San Salvador won 21-15 and turned the overall score around (36-34), consolidating their position and demonstrating their determination to stay at the top of the table.
With that small advantage left at the end of the first half, San Salvador fought tenaciously in the third period, widening the gap on the scoreboard. With a joint effort, they managed to contain Lobos’ offensive power, limiting their production to only eight points against the 12 that the capital’s team added to close the third quarter 48-42.
In the last episode, San Salvador secured its victory with a solid performance in both defense and attack. Despite Lobos’ attempt to mount a comeback, the capitalians stood firm, closing the period 17-11, securing the final 65-53 victory and their position at the top of the standings.
Santa Tecla won
The Tecleño team, led by Juan Carlos Gutiérrez, ended a streak of four games without winning yesterday at the Adolfo Pineda Municipal Gymnasium by beating Fantasmas de San Vicente 94-85.
Led by Andravious Smith, who contributed 41 points and 15 rebounds, Santa Tecla won again and is now in sixth place with 22 points, the same as Cojute, which is fifth in the table.
For its part, Fantasmas added its 12th loss of the tournament and its third in a row. The Vicentinos have 18 points and are penultimate in the table, with the same points as Brujos de Izalco.
