The Abu Dhabi-based airline plans to increase its fleet of narrow- and wide-body aircraft to 150 aircraft over the next five years, compared to around 80 it currently has, which ‘ means that they plan to add between 10 and 15 new aircraft each year.
Most of these new aircraft will be added to existing orders for Airbus A320, A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft.
“Etihad is in talks with aircraft leasing companies and aircraft manufacturers in an effort to acquire additional aircraft to supplement those it receives from current orders,” Neves told Reuters in an interview at the Arab Travel Market show in Dubai .

He said, “The company is interested in buying new aircraft directly from aircraft manufacturers by taking advantage of other airlines canceling orders or rescheduling delivery dates. “
He continued, “The Union will not submit a large order.”
He said: “I strongly believe in the importance of flexibility in the aircraft fleet. “I don’t like to make big orders.”

Airbus and Boeing are having trouble meeting delivery schedules due to problems in their supply chains, while Boeing’s production has slowed due to increased quality inspections and inspections by regulatory authorities.
