Family, friends, admirers and acquaintances of the young baseball player Daniel Antonio Colás Soulary showed up this Wednesday, May 1, to say goodbye to him, in his native Santiago de Cuba.

At such a young age and with a promising sporting future ahead of him, Colás’s death resonated with his neighbors and acquaintances, who attended the wake of the young man’s remains, to accompany him before he leaves for his final resting place.

The independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada shared a photograph of the young man, who was laid to rest at his home, on 4th Street in Santa Rosa, in Santiago de Cuba. Mayeta explained that the young man was veiled in his baseball uniform.

“Last night, family and friends began to post good vibes on social media for his 23rd birthday, but at dawn on this first day of May everyone was saddened when they learned of his death,” Mayeta said on Facebook.

The young man, who was part of the Santiago Wasps for three consecutive series, without being able to join the last one due to health problems, died of an unspecified illness, although a user who mourned his death on social media, identified as Leonardo Leal, stated that It was due to leukemia.

Daniel Colás was recognized in his community for his talent for baseball, and even his coach, Eriberto Rosales, declared to local media that “he had everything to become the best in his position in the country.”

On social networks, many users have mourned his death and have joined in condolences to the boy’s family and friends.

“Today when I woke up I saw the sad news of the death of Daniel Antonio Colas Soulary, an athlete from the Avispas team of Santiago de Cuba, a team with which he participated in three National Series in which he had an offensive line of AVE 191 H 18 VB 94 CA 20 to the non-average defense for 903 E:14 TL:144,” sports narrator Juan Manuel Ortega wrote on Facebook.

“Beyond the statistics, he was a very dedicated and sacrificed athlete in his sports career. I had the pleasure of meeting him and sharing with him, an excellent boy, very humble, simple and above all, an excellent friend. Daniel is physically gone but his joyful spirit will always be present at Guillermón supporting the team he loves, the Santiago Wasps,” he added.

For his part, Internet user Cándido Rey Sánchez Vinent reflected the pain of the game for those close to him, who hoped to see him play at a professional level one day.

“You left me with the desire to show off in the stadium by telling the fans: ‘that boy is the son of Félix, my neighbor on Avenida de Acacias,’” he said on Facebook.
