More than a million people attended Madonna’s free concert on Brazil’s Copacabana beach, which marked the end of her Celebration world tour.
This is reported Reutersreports Ukrinform.
Despite the heat, the oceanfront boulevard around Rio de Janeiro’s famous beach was filled with a crowd for several blocks, which city officials estimated at 1.6 million people. Many stood there for hours and even days to get a comfortable seat, while more affluent fans watched the concert on boats near the beach.
More than 3,000 police officers were deployed around the concert venue, while firefighters sprayed water and handed out free drinking water before the concert to cool off fans as temperatures topped 30 degrees Celsius.
During the night concert, the temperature was around 27 degrees Celsius.
Brazilian authorities have stepped up vigilance over large gatherings in the heat after a young Brazilian fan died of heatstroke at a Taylor Swift concert last year.
Madonna, 65, performed for more than two hours, ending a tour that began late last year. The show was also attended by Brazilian pop-party members, as well as young musicians from samba schools.

The authorities of the state and city of Rio de Janeiro said that they spent 20 million reais on the concert, and the rest was financed by private sponsors. According to the authorities, the concert can bring about 300 million reais to the economy of Rio de Janeiro.
As reported by Ukrinform, Madonna started her world tour in London in October 2023. Then she carried the Ukrainian flag onto the stage and, together with the ballet, wore hats by Ukrainian designer Ruslan Baginskiy.
