MADRID, 8 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of Canada announced this Friday that it will resume funding for the United Nations Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), suspended since the end of January after learning of the alleged participation of some of its employees in the attacks by the Palestinian Movement. Islamic Resistance (Hamas) against Israeli territory.

After examining the report from the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services, as well as the independent investigation led by former French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, Canada’s Ministry of International Development has announced that payments from Ottawa to the agency.

Thus, the Canadian Minister of International Development, Ahmed Hussen, has stressed that, although the authorities take the accusations against the agency seriously, Ottawa is satisfied with the measures adopted to shed light on this matter, reports Radio Canada.

“As a government, we have a responsibility to ensure that Canadians trust the organizations we support. That is why we have taken prudent measures to allow a necessary investigation to be carried out,” Minister Hussen detailed this Friday.

Therefore, the Government of Canada will proceed to pay the planned payment of $25 million to UNRWA next April. Ottawa has recalled that women and children are the main victims of the Israeli offensive launched in the Gaza Strip after the Hamas attacks.

On the other hand, Hussen has announced that the Canadian Executive has reached an agreement with the Jordanian authorities and the World Food Program to carry out humanitarian aid deliveries by air over the enclave. Due to the blockade of crossings in Gaza, some countries are now choosing this route to deliver aid.

In fact, at least five people have died and several more have been injured this Friday after a package loaded with humanitarian aid that had been dropped by air fell to the ground in an uncontrolled manner due to parachute failures.

Hamas launched a series of attacks against Israel in early October that left almost 1,200 dead and 240 hostages. In response, Israel launched a bloody counteroffensive in the Gaza Strip that has already left, according to the authorities of the enclave, controlled by the militia, more than 30,000 dead and 70,000 injured.

At the end of January, information came to light that allegedly linked UNRWA employees to those Hamas attacks. Canada, along with several other countries, including the United States, announced the suspension of funding for the United Nations agency, which launched an investigation.
