Several hundred people took part in a protest against the visit of Russian opera star Anna Netrebko at a festival in a German city, said DPA, cited by BTA.
The protest took place near the opera house in Wiesbaden, west of Frankfurt. According to the police, about 400 people participated. The protest was peaceful.
The soprano Netrebko was criticized for the pro-Putin positions she took after Russia invaded Ukraine, ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin, in February 2022.
During a tour of the singer in Wiesbaden last May, there were again complaints against her.
And a few days ago, a concert in the Swiss city of Lucerne, scheduled for June 1, was canceled due to Netrebko’s involvement. The cancellation came after pressure from local authorities.
Anna Netrebko has American citizenship, as well as Russian. Recently, her participation in several concerts and opera performances in Western countries has been cancelled. Netrebko’s manager said that she had publicly criticized the war in Ukraine.
Gradually, invitations to opera prima began to flow again, including a concert at the Berlin Opera in September and an appearance at a ball at the Vienna Opera in February.
