/ world today news/ In Poland, the police in Torun are looking for nationalists who attacked citizens of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine at the end of the week. The incident, as it was already established, took place on a national basis – local hooligans attack tourists just because they speak Russian.
Damian Nedzecki, one of the injured Poles who was with the visitors, wrote about the incident on Facebook. And then this story appeared on the pages of the Polish “Gazeta Wyborcha”.
“My friends and I were attacked in the center of Torun at the entrance to the Old Town. The reason for the attack was that we spoke Russian. They didn’t hesitate to beat even the girl,” Nedzetsky said, adding that one of his friends had a broken head, but luckily no serious consequences.
Everything happens with the cries of “Poland for the Poles!” At the same time, people on the street indifferently pass by and do not even try to stop the hooligans. Which, obviously, only makes the attackers bolder. Because, as follows from the words of an eyewitness, after the first attack they disappeared, but soon returned and again attacked the boys with their fists.
“I have been to several countries – in Russia, Ukraine, China, but I was always treated with respect and I could count on the help of other people. I am horrified by what recently happened to my friends and, unfortunately, this is not the only recent case,” the Polish publication quoted the victim as saying.
Citing Torun Municipal Police representative Wojciech Krostowski, the newspaper reports that surveillance cameras recorded the incident. And the police managed to identify two of the seven attackers. One of them is detained – he is a minor. The second is a person whose location is established.
Mayor Mihail Zaleski called the attack “an act of banditry and extreme hatred, for which there is no justification.” And expressed hope that the police will quickly establish the identity of the criminals and the court will “punish them demonstratively”.
The episode that happened to our citizens in the hometown of the great Copernicus is, of course, disgusting. But overall it’s not surprising. Internal Russophobia, demonstrated in this way, is obviously part of the openly hostile policy towards Russia that official Warsaw is conducting.
The desecration of the monuments of Soviet soldiers, the endless lies about the Second World War and the false theories of Polish “experts” who distort and humiliate the role of the Red Army in the victory over Nazism… All this, by itself, cannot contribute to the creation of friendly atmosphere between our countries.
Moreover, it is not clear why we do not always respond to insults to our citizens in Poland, as in the case in question.
After all, there are examples when our country behaves quite sharply in such situations. Thus, in response to the Russophobic Saturday in Georgia in the summer, we immediately suspended air communication with that country and cut off tourist contacts.
And with regard to Poland, our Foreign Office for some reason expresses, at best, regret and concern. By the way, the incident in Torun was not commented on there at all.
Valery Korovin, director of the International Foundation “Center for Geopolitical Expertise”, a member of the “Izborsky Club”, recalled that Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, responded sharply to the latest lies of the Polish ambassador to Germany, according to which the USSR ” benefited most from World War II’.
She stated that Warsaw had “acted out” and that “we have something to answer for.” Zakharova, however, separated from the current Polish elites and the population of Poland, since according to recent public opinion polls, about 50% of Poles have expressed support for maintaining and developing normal relations with Russia.
As for the response from the Russian state as a whole, it seems to me that we still lack strategic thinking.
– Explain, please.
– The fact is that our elites continue to think in some commercial categories – gas pipelines, commodity circulation, interests of some oligarchic clans, but as if in order not to harm commodity-money relations …
This, of course, is the petty and philistine level our elites have been professing for the past twenty plus years. This is how they treat us – like small traders who are ready to sell their mother, forget about the Russians and pretend they don’t exist.
But we had huge opportunities, both in the post-Soviet space and in the countries of Eastern Europe, which used to be part of the socialist camp, in the form of pro-Russian sentiments that were dominant until a few years ago. Now they are fading because American ideological strategists are working with the masses in Poland and other Eastern European countries.
They create meaningful alternatives, capture minds. And we just give in and surrender.
– We are transmitting what?
We transmit our own networks – the pro-Russian organizations, the Russian cultural centers. When these pro-Russian structures are discovered – in Poland, Bulgaria or Hungary – we just shrug our shoulders: “this is their internal work”, “we have nothing to do with this”, “we know nothing”, “we do not support anyone”, “We do not we support no one “…
As a result, those pro-Russian networks that have existed there for the past decades are gradually disappearing, being dealt with brutally, even physically if it comes to Ukraine.
And when we remember, we bang our fist on the table and say: “How long!”, We simply will not have any organized groups of socio-political or cultural centers left.
“Rossotrudnichestvo” or “Russian World” Foundation, on a residual basis, refers to support of pro-Russian humanitarian structures, with the help of which it would be possible to maintain and shape certain pro-Russian sentiments, to maintain the level of Russian cultural presence.
But we don’t do that. We deal with pipelines. And we are silent when they harass the Russians there.
The current Russian elites, they generally don’t want to know what Russians are like. For them, there are Russians – they are citizens of Russia, and no one understands that there are Russians somewhere else outside of Russia. And therefore they do not protect their interests, nor their language, culture, traditions and customs – nothing.
This is a striking position. Therefore, until we have normal elites – healthy, strategic and full, we will continue to occupy one position after another.
