Cher thinks men can’t handle her. Speaking to Jennifer Hudson on Wednesday’s episode of her talk show, the singer explained that she dates younger men because she’s “a little shy” around men in general.
“And the reason I date young men is because men my age are dead – but even when I was younger they were always afraid to approach me. And the younger men – they were raised by women like me,” explained the 77-year-old brunette.
“They’re brave,” Hudson added, to which Cher agreed.
Before admitting why she prefers younger men, Cher said she previously turned down Elvis Presley’s romantic advances because she was “nervous” about his reputation and “knew about the people around him”.
The Moonstruck actress is currently dating music executive Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, who is 38 and 40 years her junior. The two met at Paris Fashion Week in September 2022, but briefly separated in May 2023.
The two fueled rumors of rekindling their relationship in September 2023 when they were spotted holding hands after a dinner date in Los Angeles.
After they got back together, Cher admitted that the romance was unexpected.
“I used to tell my girlfriends: Don’t fall in love with a younger man, we’re too old. And don’t fall in love via text. There’s that theory,” Cher says during a December 2023 episode of “The Chicken Soup Incident.”
She has also repeatedly defended their unlikely romance.
Amid criticism of their 40-year age gap, Cher hit back on Twitter, writing: ‘Don’t you have anything else to do? Let me explain… I don’t care what anyone thinks.’
The Burlesque star, who was previously married to Sonny Bono and Gregg Allman, has dated quite a few big-name men in the past, including David Geffen, 81, and Gene Simmons, 74.
She has also had romances with Tom Cruise, 61, Richie Sambora, 64, and Val Kilmer, also 64.
One of her more serious relationships was with Rob Camilletti, whom she met when she was 40 and he was 22.
