MADRID, 9 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

A ninth grade student – 14 years old – has died in Badar Ranjha, Pakistan, after receiving a brutal beating from a private school teacher who punished him for not having memorized the lesson.

The incident occurred last Thursday, but it was not revealed until the victim died in a hospital in Faisalabad due to the severity of his injuries, reports Pakistani television Geo TV.

The victim, identified as Samiulá, suffered serious injuries to his spine after being hit with a stick. He was transferred to a hospital in the nearby city of Sargodha and later to Faisalabad after his prognosis worsened. The Police have confirmed that they have opened an investigation and have arrested the person responsible for the beating.

The president of the National Commission on Children’s Rights, Ayesha Raza Faruq, has stated that she is “horrified and alarmed” by what happened and has announced “measures” in response to this incident.

Faruq recalled that in the capital region, Islamabad, the Prohibition of Physical Punishment Act, 2021, has existed since 2021, which expressly prohibits physical punishment in public and private educational centers. “We are going to take this issue to the assemblies as soon as they are formed so that these laws can be made throughout the country,” he stressed.
